Transport

Last night we played in Fort Lauderdale. I've been trying to Amp up
my energy more and more each night and last night I kinda wiped
out after the show. Note to self....drink more water.

It's quite early and we are sitting at a truck stop. I've always had an
interest in the mechanics of society. The practical day to day stuff,
food production, commodities, and transport. It's in my nature to
take things apart and figure out how they work. So when i look at
the world around me, i often ponder these things.
When you're on tour you become party to the subculture of trucking.
Whether it be stumbling into a truck stop to get some food, or waiting
for the bus to get fueled etc. Touring takes you out of normal reality
in that your home becomes mobile and you adapt a nomadic
mentality. I think that's why it's hard to decompress when you
get off the road. One of the strange things about this lifestyle is that
it feels more like you are static and the world is moving around
you. Rather than you moving through it. I suppose this is because
when you adopt a nomadic life your home becomes wherever
you happen to be at that moment. There is a certain power and
sense of freedom that comes from looking at reality this way. I'm
sure that's part of the allure of the lifestyle. Whenever you adapt
a truly different means of perceiving something it gives you a
brief window of objectivity on your former perspective.
When I'm on the road, the world looks like a giant museum
because you are outside of the normal static reality. You are on
the outside looking in. That's very surreal, but it's also fascinating.
It's the difference between observer and immersed participant.

We've gotten the green light for the live Skinny Puppy DVD. So
over the last few days I've started to get my head back into
filmmaker mode. I'm bringing out crews for both Canadian dates,
Montreal and Toronto. The DVD is going to be both live performance
and documentary. I would go into detail about the the concept but
I'd rather not give it away. It will suffice to say that the documentary
aspect will be presented in a very original way. I'll also finally have
an outlet for all the archived material that I have relating to past
tours.
